General:
- Turn on fast weapon switching (it's under Advanced.. is the settings)
- Learn the maps. This mostly comes with practice and playtime, but it is required to do any sort of killing.
- Spy check ALL THE TIME. period.
- Have a mic, this will help w/ your team communication. Use it!
- Spy on battlements, spy in sewers, uber at front door, etc
- On this note, be an active member of the team when dead. Use the fact that you can see around corners for people and sometimes get better views of incoming forces.
- High Jumping: (just for Gibber1sh)
- run and jump in the direction you want to go
- while in air, crouch (ctrl); this allows you to jump slightly higher than a regular jump
Demo man:
- learn to "sticky jump"
- place a sticky on the location you want to jump from
- run and jump over your sticky in the direction you want to go
- while in air, crouch (ctrl) and right click
- take out built up sentry guns (SG)
- if you hold the fire button on your "sticky" gun you can shoot farther
- this allows you to get stickies next to an SG while staying out of range
- 3-4 stickies on/near an SG set off at the same time will destroy it
- do not try one sticky at a time approach, this allows the engineer time to repair
Sniper:
- Shooting:
- Build up charge behind wall, then move out to shoot
- When strafing out to shoot, if you see a sniper looking at you, duck immediately. They will probably blow their first shot above you head, giving you the chance to pop theirs.
- If not in a specific hiding spot (looking through a small slice of boxes, well hidden) NEVER STAND STILL.
- Get on a sniper server and practice!
- look for heavies that are "spun-up" as they will be easy slow moving targets
- General:
- Know your maps. Learn where other snipers hang out. Try to discover your own positions that are well hidden and allow targeting of common locations.
- behind hills
- behind stairs
- dark corners
- wall-splices (a corner on your left and a corner of another wall on the right)
- Use the machete! If a spy, engie, medic move in close use your machete.
- Against pyros try to use the SMG while running away. Do not try to machete as you will be cooked very quickly.
Pyro:
- Defensive:
- light and run
- find a well placed SG and dispenser and spy-check there periodically to recharge your ammo and help keep the gun up. If demos or soldiers are attacking it you can also help protect the gun with your air blast.
- when ubers come in, use your air blast to separate the medic from his patient or just to keep them from shooting your SGs at all.
- Ofensive:
- Approach demos and soldiers by using your air blast to deflect (if they are the only ones around)
- Air blasts:
- the timing is strange to get used to, it requires right-clicking about 1.5 seconds before you'd be hit by the projectile
- you can reflect SG's rockets back at it give the right distance
Medic:
- blutsauger is your friend, you can take down a heavy at mid-range if you keep a steady stream of vampire needles flying his way. Hide behind corners to reload to avoid death.
- Heal the people with the lowest health.
- Run into everyone you are healing to see if they are a spy. If you realize you are healing a spy, stop. (Eric Gramond)
Heavy:
-
Engineer:
- place teleporter entrance right away at beginning of setup, then run back to base to refill metal
- banging on stuff w/ the wrench makes it build faster
- place SGs where they have clear shots at choke points, but there are not straight lines out of its range. This will prevent demos and soldiers from easily taking out your guns.
- build a dispenser first if possible and next to your gun. Ideally you should be able to repair your gun and dispenser while your dispenser recharges you.
- spy check everyone that approaches your stuff w/ your wrench if you are not under direct fire.
- building can serve dual purposes. Building dispensers in doorways or teleporters on ramps can serve to block your opponent long enough to kill them.
Spy:
- one of the most fun things in TF2 to do is the engie-turret kill:
- when an engineer is behind his gun he is vulnerable to attack from behind
- disguised as their teammate, stab the engie
- immediately (and I mean quick!) switch to your sapper
- sap the gun, recloak, redisguise
Scout:
-
Soldier:
- help out engies:
- when a demo is ubering to take out an SG, shoot rockets at your engies gun. This will clear out stickies and help your engie survive.
- learn to rocket jump:
- point gun at ground
- jump (space)
- crouch (ctrl)
- fire while crouching
- practice make perfect on these, there are custom rocket jumping maps
