Halloweeny

Well, Brooke’s favorite time of the year has come and gone. Whatever the reason, that girl loves Halloween. This year we not only “went” to a party; we hosted it. We had our small group meet at our apartment for a little par-tay. Everyone dressed up (pictures to prove it). There were 18 people in our one bedroom apartment. We had themed food, music, video, and games. Definately a night to remember. Brooke was an orange crayon and I was a yellow chicken.

Running is for suckers 1

I am tired, Brooke and I ran a half-marathon today (13.1 miles). I am going to crash soon, so I'll just post the results:

We didn't set any records, but we finished and had fun.

So I found a new interesting web toy:

They are little flash pets (like the one on the right side of this page). The tiger is pretty cool too.

Oh yeah, Santa Barbara

I’m slowly trying to get caught up on this weblog thingy. I have spent a little time on my small group’s website for church.

http://sg.shawnandbrooke.com

Get it, the sg stands for Small Group. I’ve also started working on an AJAX two player chess game, but that is going very slowly.

Any ways, the weekend of July 22nd, we headed up to Santa Barbara with our friends Mark and Nessy (Venessa). We stayed with Nessy’s grandparents. They are a great couple. Her grandpa is a painter and had some really cool paintings to look at. Their place was really nice and they made us breakfast every morning.

We went and checked out the pier there, the local beach, and went wine tasting. We went to three or four places to taste. It was SSOOO hot there though. We decided it was too hot to drink anymore wine! That night we went back to Venessa’s grandparents house and watched Sideways. That is a wierd movie, but it was shot at a whole bunch of the same wineries that we were visiting.

We took highway 1 on the way home, also known as the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). The view is very nice and it’s a fun curvey road. Thanks again to Mark and Venessa for driving! Hopefully we’ll get some pics up soon.

Vegas Baby!

It’s been a while since we posted anything, partly because there wasn’t anything big goin on, and partly because our site was broken.

Let’s try to catch up…

We went to Vegas for our anniversary. Since we had never been we just got a cheap hotel on the strip and spent most of our time exploring. We have some cool pictures which will someday make it up to flickr, but until then trust me when I say wow. Lots to do and lots of lights.

I got my first chance to play real blackjack at a table. Nothing to big, $5 bets, but a lot of fun. The chips were heavier than I thought they’d be. I lost a little money but pretty much broke even on a couple hours of play. My table was great. The people there were friendly and very helpful. There was one crazy guy that kept betting like $100 (max) on single hands. He ended up leaving the table eventually…. $400 up.

Brooke and I played some nickel slots and had a blast getting free drinks for spending 50 cents on a slot machine! There was one slot machine that I played one nickel in while waiting for Brooke to get out of the bathrom. I hit some crazy bonus thing and cashed out after one pull for $35!!

Enough with the gambling. Let me just say, Vegas was HOT! (110ish) We walked around all day. We had to dive in and out of casino’s and stores just to stay cool. Some places on the strip even have sprayers that mist onto the sidewalks because its so hot. We actually walked all the way to the HardRock Cafe. If anyone has been to Vegas, you know how far off the strip that is.

We met up with some friends there and caught breakfast with them once. They were staying at the Wynn. Let me just say that place is amazing, I think Brooke got a good picture of it.

When we go back, we will definately see some shows. And as a side note, we walked so much in Vegas, that I got Tendonitis from my sandals!
