CSI Miami

I don't know why, but the recent trend of TV shows that Brooke and I enjoy is CSI MIami and Law and Order.  Not great shows, but addicting non the less.  Here is a funny clip that stumbled upon.  If you have ever seen CSI Miami, you'll get it.

Ice Ice Shawn

Well, I guess I should follow through with my threat.  Here is the corresponding video to the night at the GasLite with friends.  We've all already seen Trey's rendition of umbrella, so here is me doing Vanilla Ice: Ice Ice  Baby.  Enjoy.

Marshmallow Glory

Posted by Shawn Tue, 01 Jul 2008 15:00:05 GMT

This weekend Brooke and I went to Temescal Canon for a small group leaders training session. The training covered some great topics; fear, anger, depression, and addiction. It also involved meeting a lot of the other small group leaders from Mosaic. To get to know one another better, we picked groups of five or six people. I was on team “Ska-doosh” (think Kung-Fu Panda).

All in all it was a great weekend of learning, mingling, and beach going.

Here’s a clip from my team winning the marshmallow competition:

Trey rocks the Gaslight

Well karaoke was a hit. A bunch of us went to the Gaslight karaoke bar in Santa Monica the other night. Brooke, my brother Chad, Susan, Peter, Cat, me, and of course Trey. I can attest to the fact that Trey’s performance was not alcohol induced whatsoever. Take a look at the results:

If you are really lucky, I’ll post the video of me singing… stay tuned.

MacClouds at Highlander 2008 3

Posted by Shawn Wed, 11 Jun 2008 17:19:00 GMT

Mosaic’s men’s ministry Forge puts on an event every year called Highlander . Large tribes of 20-30 men are pitted against one another in the battle for the Highlander trophy.

Events:

  • Pugil Stick Fighting
  • Video Games (Mario Kart for the Wii)
  • Engineering Challenge
  • Genius Challenge
  • Video Editing (see the video above)
  • Relay Race
  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Paintball
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Amazing Race
  • Ping Pong
  • Horseshoes
  • Dodgeball
  • Trivia Contest
  • Tug of War

Our tribe was slightly undermanned, so we merged into the MacCloud tribe. (Yes I know that it’s spelled wrong, its on purpose). They were a great group of guys that really made us feel like we were part of the tribe. This tribe has so much heart and everyone left everything on the field. I cannot believe we didn’t win the competition (we took 3rd).

We had some awesome victories: football came down to the winning touchdown in the last few seconds, made by my brother Chad, the engineers blew the competition away (almost doubling up the weight held by 2nd place) We held 30 lbs (officially 27) second only held 16lbs. Thanks to the professional skills of Nate for the video competition. Our basketball team rocked with a 2nd place finish, and of course, what can top the tug of war win against O’Callahan uphill and still beating them!! Chad went undefeated in the Pugil Stick competition with a 4-0 record. Our amazing race team got so far ahead, they had to WAIT for the clues to get there!! (1st place finish there).

Paintball was definitely a rush, even though we didn’t win. I am very proud to say that of the 3 guys we killed, I killed two of them. One was the second shot of the game that nailed the guy right between the eyes.

All in all it was a fantastically exhausting weekend. I can’t wait for next year.

rubygame strikes again

Here’s a little sample app for os x (intel) that shows off how simple it is to whip up a game using rubygame. I wrote a silly Jeopardy clone for use in my church small group. I paired my Wiimote w/ my mac book pro (DarWiinRemote), bounced my MBP out to a TV and had a great time. The controls are ESC to quite, TAB to show the scores, +/- then team number(1/2) to modify score. ENTER selects the questions and the arrow keys move around the board. Take a look and play around.

When digging through my computer for things to delete, I came across a stitched together panorama I had made after our Germany trip. It was about five or six pictures (if memory serves). Take a look:

Hulu open to the public

Hulu.com is now open to the public. There is a lot of TV content and clips and even some decent movies. Personally, I was excited to see Ice Ago on their list. Lets learn a little lesson about family…
